Developing a Recycling Plan
Contact your waste management company and municipality to find out what recycling services they offer. Some important questions to ask are:
-
What materials do they recycle?
-
Do the materials need to be sorted before pick up and if so how do they needed to be sorted?
-
How and when can they pick up the materials?
-
Are there any fees?
You can also look into other recycling programs in your area which might suit your needs. In addition, there are a number of other actions you can take:
-
Have
receptacles
readily available for office paper, cans, bottles, cardboard and E-waste.
-
Provide stations for people to
recycle old batteries or printer cartridges
.
-
Recycle
old cell phones and electronics
in the proper manner.
-
Implement
single stream recycling
wherever possible.

Start a recycling program for the
back-of-house and front-of-house staff.
-
Introduce a
guest room recycling program
for guests to follow and get more education.
-
Provide guests with
reading material
to learn about your property's effort to "go green."
E-waste disposal
Targeting E-waste is a good place to start. This is referring to
electronic products
like computers, televisions or copiers that are at the end of their useful life and are ready to be replaced and thrown out. In many cases, they can be recycled or even refurbished and reused.
