Defining Total Cost of Ownership

Total Cost of Ownership is a term used to describe the total costs of owning and operating an asset over a set time period. In addition to the cost of an asset, Strategic Sourcing calculates what the TCO is to an affiliate, including all costs associated with its use and maintenance. Procuring products and services off contract through local suppliers can be a costly mistake, and can negatively impact TCO.
