What is Timeshare?

Timeshare, (or shared holiday ownership), is where you buy the right of ownership or the right to use a specific period of time; normally a week or more, at a holiday resort property.

You can either purchase at a fixed time of year at a certain resort to suit your personal needs or you may wish to purchase ‘points’ which can give you additional flexibility on your holiday planning.

The spectrum of holiday ownership ranges from timeshare resorts which typically offer a single week option although additional weeks can be purchased at the same resort or at several different ones, to fractional and private residence clubs which provide longer accommodation periods of several weeks of ownership, and condo-hotels, which allow the owner more usage and a share of the rental revenue.

Holiday ownership resorts provide more spacious accommodations than typical hotels, delivering the ultimate holiday experience.

The holiday exchange service providers, of which RCI is the world leader with 4,000 affiliated resorts in its exchange network, give developers the opportunity to offer their purchasers and owners quite literally a world of holidays to choose from. Each timeshare use period is allocated a trading power and if the owner is an RCI member, and wishes to holiday in a fresh destination or try a different experience, they can deposit their week(s) into the RCI exchange network and take a holiday of equivalent trading power at another RCI-affiliated resort, and at another time of the year than that of their period of use ownership.

RCI’s holiday exchange service is available to both RCI Weeks and RCI Points members and to resort developers to offer their purchasers and owners upon affiliation of their resort to the RCI holiday exchange network.
