In the latest leading news for the industry, Lee Dowling, senior vice president and managing director Europe and Middle East at Marriott Vacation Club International, has been announced as the new Board chairman at RDO. Dowling’s extensive knowledge of the European industry and his tenure on the Board since early 2016 is set to serve the organisation well and will be invaluable in driving forward RDO’s lobbying and enforcement campaigns and in delivering the best possible service to members.

Dowling's appointment was officially announced at the RDO 10 Conference, which was  a unique, informative and insightful event held on 11-12 September 2019, also marking its 21st anniversary as an organisation. Click here to read the full round up.

Meanwhile, more than 800 people gathered at two Meliá properties in Magaluf to honour the hotel group’s founder Gabriel Escarrer Juliá for work to boost tourism for Magaluf. The honour for Escarrer is also in recognition of the important commitment made by Meliá between 2012 and 2019 to transform the destination after its degradation in the 1990s and first decade of this century, repositioning it once again as one of the best destinations for quality family travel.

AEGEAN is helping to extend Greek tourism season - Greek tourism is on the up, with an extended tourist season, based on the latest figures from leading Greek airline AEGEAN, which carried 11.6 million passengers during the first nine months of 2019, reporting a seven per cent growth in passenger traffic.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays add over 170,000 seats - Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has responded to the extra demand across the UK by adding thousands of seats and holidays to Winter Sun destinations in the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Malta and Spain.
