In 1974, RCI introduced the concept of holiday ownership exchange, offering members flexibility in connection with the benefits of a holiday ownership interest. More than 35 years later, we continue to maintain our leadership position in the industry we helped to invent and grow.
- 1974 RCI is established in Virginia, USA with one resort affiliation and 453 members
- 1976 First RCI office outside U.S. opens in Mexico
- 1977 First European RCI office opens in London; Endless Vacation Magazine debuts
- 1980 First Pacific RCI office opens in Australia and toll-free phone lines open
- 1981 First Asian RCI office opens in Japan
- 1982 First RCI office in South America opens in Argentina
- 1983 First RCI office in Africa opens in South Africa
- 1985 RCI affiliates its 1,000th resort
- 1989 RCI reaches 1 million subscribing members
- 1991 RCI Gold Crown Resort quality award recognition programme is established.
- 1994 RCI celebrates its 20th anniversary
- 1995 RCI achieves 2 million subscribing members.
- 1996 RCI.com is launched
- 1997 RCI affiliates its 500th Gold Crown Resort
- 2000 RCI launches RCI Points programme the world’s first global points-based exchange programme.
- 2001 RCI’s Beijing, China office opens.
- 2002 RCI introduces The Registry Collection programme; RCI surpasses 3 million members;
- 2003 RCI Points surpasses 350,000 subscribing members.
- 2004 RCI celebrates 30-year anniversary.
- 2006 The Registry Collection programme reaches the milestone of offering 100 affiliated luxury leisure assets to members
- 2007 Endless Vacation Rentals is launched.
- 2008 RCI affiliates its 4,000th resort and introduces Enhanced Search for member rentals and Weeks, a unique and easy online search tool.
- 2009 RCI celebrates 35 years as the global leader in holiday exchange; RCI introduces RCI TV, a new online television network available to members on RCI.com; The Registry Collection exchange programme announced that there are more than 160 properties that are either accessible for exchange or under development through the programme.
2010 RCI launches RCI TV and Snapbook iPhone/iPad app launches. RCI TV celebrates over 1 million views in less than six months. RCI launches Weeks enhancements and provides trading power transparency to Weeks members.
2011 RCI launches RCI Platinum® membership, wins coveted ACE Innovator Award and introduces exchange recommendation feature to further enhance members’ experience.
